The Year Of The Rat...Coming Soon!
Tomorrow I'm going to post an explanation about the upcoming Chinese New Year. In the meantime here is what we have learned so far - this coming year will be the year of the Rat - according to the Chinese it's a good year to start a new job...YEA for us! You are also supposed to "spring clean" your home in preparation for CNY - a clean house, a clean beginning for the new year. You are not supposed to lose anything on the first day of the New Year - if you do, you are supposed to ignore the fact that you lost it and look for it some other time...this may prove to be a problem with the rate that Ethan loses his NUK every day! You also are not supposed to sweep your house on the seventh day as that means that you are sweeping away your good luck - I figure, hey! Any reason to get out of housework works for me! Also, CNY lasts for 14 days!! Singapore shuts down for the first three days with some business's re-opening on the fourth. This is going to completely impede our move in date, by the way! Ryan's boss told us that CNY is essentially a family reuniting time for the Chinese so there's not much in it for us...I'm seeing a four day VACATION ahead!! Maybe we'll go to Malaysia...;)

Could we celebrate, instead of the year of the rat, something less obnoxious?? Yes, God has created all animals, but not equally in human appreciation. I'd offer the aardvark or even the three toed tree toad as alternatives.
Don,
I would agree that there could be a better animal than the rat - something less sneaky or dirty -read my post from today to learn why the rat made it on the list! I know that some Chinese consider rats a delicacy and will pick them out at restaurants like we do live lobsters...:)
